WARSAW — Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Chief Mike Wilson updated board members regarding construction on WWFT station 3. The fire station, which sits on the south side of Warsaw, is estimated to be completed in July.

Wilson shared information received from Glen Smith, project manager for Mosaic Building Solutions, Fort Wayne. In an email, Smith reported that decent progress has been made considering weather challenges, although some minor adjustments have been made to the schedule. He cautioned that things could change again if we have another major cold snap or large amounts of snow. Smith advised he will update the master project schedule accordingly.

A Narcan agreement from the Indiana State Department of Health was reviewed and approved by board members. The Kosciusko County Health Department applied for and received a health grant for the product Nalaxone (Narcan), which is administered by law enforcement, emergency personnel and fire department agencies to individuals suffering from a potential drug overdose.

“The health department chose Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department to be the receiving agencies of the program,” Wilson explained.

According to Wilson, “There is the victim and the responder. A first responder could accidentally get contaminated. This agency will come in and educate every first responder on the proper use of Narcan and the usage thereof – that’s part of the grant.”

“We have to protect our responders,” said Wilson. “We’re going to have enough Narcan to handle both the patients and the first responders.”

• Warsaw-Wayne Fire territory service calls for 2017 were reviewed and discussed. WWFT responded to 2,570 calls for service during the 2017 year. Of those service calls, 1,181 were classified as Major Incident Types.
• Travel requests for education seminars were approved as presented.
• A pay application for $57,200 was submitted by Mosaic Building Solutions. This was approved.
• A letter of engagement from H.J. Umbaugh & Associates, Indianapolis, was reviewed and approved.
• Board members approved a fee agreement with Beers Mallers Backs & Salin, LLP, Fort Wayne, for the legal services of Andrew Grossnickle.
• The next regular meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6.
