Coroner: Kosciusko County Boy, 5, Died From The Flu
WARSAW — Kosciusko County Coroner Tony Ciriello confirmed Tuesday, Feb. 6, that the death of a 5-year-old boy late last year was the result of influenza.
In a press release issued today, Ciriello confirmed Quinten Price, 5, died Dec. 27, 2017 after falling ill. “The final autopsy report was just received by this office this morning,” said Ciriello in the statement. “Autopsy and microbiology testing showed Price died of complications from the strain of Influenza A.”
Ciriello said the boy’s death was the second flu-related death in Kosciusko County for the 2017-2018 flu season, with the other being an elderly person. Children and the elderly are the most susceptible to have serious complications from the flu virus, Ciriello said. Flu season typically runs from about December until March of every year, although the virus can strike during any time of the year.
According to the Center for Disease Control, vaccination is recommended for those who can be immunized and the CDC does not recommend the nasal spray vaccination.
