Bethany Sectional: Cougars Rip Hamilton, Reach Finals
WATERFORD MILLS – Lakeland Christian Academy checked off another item on the list Friday night, dismantling Hamilton 63-19 in the semi-finals of the Bethany Christian Girls Basketball Sectional.
Hamilton, winless in 22 games coming in but drawing the bye, provided LCA no trouble as the Lady Cougars exploded to a 25-3 lead after the first quarter. Any hope for a competitive game ended by half, as LCA took a 37-10 lead into the break, which blew up to a 40-point lead in the third quarter.
Nine players made the scoring column for LCA, led by Hope Fancil’s 20 points and Tori Calizo’s 16 points. Anna Reimink totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Brady Gross and Abigail Fishel combined for eight points, nine rebounds and four steals.
LCA as a team combined to pull down 41 rebounds, steal 10 balls and block seven shots.
LCA, with its win on Tuesday against Bethany, achieves just its third sectional win in program history and is now set to play in its first sectional championship Saturday night. Coming from the bottom half of the Bethany bracket is Lakewood Park Christian, which survived Fremont 39-33 in the second game of the evening.
LCA (16-8) and LPC (16-5) will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night for the championship. Neither team has ever won a sectional title.
