Haines Files To Fill Vacancy In Leesburg Town Council
LEESBURG — Tyler Haines has filed for the Leesburg Town Council position. The vacancy, due to the resignation of Larry Richey, is an at-large seat.
Haines has lived in Kosciusko County for most of his life. His family has operated Stacy’s Restaurant for 45 years and Haines is now the owner and operator. In addition, he is an attorney and practices architecture out of his Leesburg office.
“I have considered being a member of the town council several times over the years, but respected all the prior board members’ willingness to serve,” said Haines. “This current opening has created an opportune time to put my hat in the ring.”
This is Haines’ first time running for town council but he has served as a State Delegate and Precinct Committeeman in the past.
If Haines were to be chosen to fill the vacant spot on the council, he hopes to concentrate on ways to bring back retail business to the downtown area of Leesburg.
“I believe we can capitalize on our strength of community, historical significance and especially the famous brick streets,” said Haines. “The Town of Leesburg is a gateway to the lakes area, and has always been an important hub of agricultural activity. We need to continue towards keeping Leesburg a safe and desirable place to live, work and visit.”
So far, Haines is the only candidate to file for the open position. Eligible members of the caucus are the Republican Precinct Committeemen in Plain Township 2, who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the date of the caucus.
Interested persons can file his/her declaration of candidacy via mail to Mike Ragan at 1458 E. 75N, Warsaw, IN 46582 or email at [email protected].
The caucus to fill the position will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6. The caucus will be held in the Leesburg Town Council Chambers in the Leesburg Fire Station.
