Miner To Retain Position As Silver Lake Council President, Crackdown On Code Violations To Begin

Chad Miner was elected to continue serving as the Silver Lake Town Council president.
SILVER LAKE — During the first Silver Lake town council meeting of the year, held Wednesday, Jan. 10, council members approved Chad Miner to continue as the council president for 2018. Miner served as president during 2016 and 2017.
Silver Lake Town Marshal Jason McGlennen gave an update regarding code violations.
According to McGlennen, one resident received 166 citations in 2017 out of the 187 total citations issued. This total does not include warrants for ordinances. Council members discussed how to proceed with handling citations.
“I don’t know what changed over the years,“ said McGlennen. “I just know that years ago we went to court and somewhere along the line it changed.”
Attorney Scott Reust suggested that McGlennen obtain a list of residents who have unpaid violations. Reust also informed council members that Tom Earhart has agreed to serve as a code enforcement officer for Silver Lake. Earhart was introduced as the new hearing officer for Warsaw during the City of Warsaw Department of Code Enforcement hearing held Jan. 9. Reust stated that the Silver Lake Town Council February agenda will include Earhart being officially appointed as code enforcement officer.
Silver Lake Fire Chief John Conley requested permission to purchase new smoke alarms for the fire department and an air hose reel. These requests were approved. Conley advised that he is checking into replacing the seven canister light fixtures along the front of the fire station. Conley also reported that the fire department generator has been repaired.
