Ledford Benton
Ledford Benton, 82, North Manchester, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born October 18,1935, in Caney, Ky. to Willard & Netta Jane (Kash) Benton.
He graduated from Wilbur Wright High School, Dayton, Ohio. He then graduated from Manchester College in 1958 receiving a Bachelor’s in education. He received his Master’s in education from Ball State University in 1968. On Aug. 24, 1957, he married Nancy Lee Mishler. She passed away Dec. 5, 2012.
Benton taught at numerous schools in Ohio and Northeast Indiana. He retired from Manchester Community Schools in 1992 where he was a teacher, football and wrestling coach. He enjoyed fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. He was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester.
Surviving are sons, Mike (Tori) Benton, Middleburg, Barry Benton, Garrett, and Mark (Kelly) Benton, North Manchester; daughter, Jeri (Dave) Lehman, North Manchester; brothers, Max Benton, Farmersville, Ohio and Kelvin (Gayle) Benton, Lebanon, Ohio; sister, Netta Jo (Dave) Becker, Beavercreek, Ohio; five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Rev. Kurt Stout and Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
