Triton Basketball: Trojans Shoot Down Titans
BOURBON — Triton’s boys basketball team scored at a 17-of-25 clip on the Trojans’ way to their highest points total of the year, and the blue and gold handed visiting South Bend Trinity a 52-35 loss at home at the Trojan Trench Friday.
Ross Johnson finished with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Beau Hepler was perfect from the floor with 6-of-6 shooting — including a trio of 3-pointers — on his way to 15 points. Triton (3-4) outscored Trinity (5-3) 15-4 in the first quarter and led by as many as 20 points in a wire-to-wire win.
The Trojans out-rebounded their guests 27-19 and held the Titans to 10 of 36 (27.8 percent) from the floor while surviving 21 turnovers at the game. Sean Pingel led Trinity with nine points.
The JV Trojans also earned a win, 25-13, Friday.
Keegan Westafer scored 17 of his team’s points on 5-of-10 efficiency and hauled in another team-high six rebounds in the win. Peter Rossi, Ian Pingel and Ben Bagiackas each scored three points to lead a Trinity JV that scored at less than 19 percent at Triton.
Triton will resume its schedule at John Glenn on Jan. 5.
