High School Holiday Hoops On Tap
There will be plenty of opportunities for area high school hoops teams to give themselves a belated gift or two this holiday season.
A loaded smorgasbord of prep games will be on tap on local hardwoods in the coming week or so in the form of holiday tournament play.
The Tippecanoe Valley girls team, which boasts a 12-1 record, will return to action in an event being hosted by Concord on Dec. 30. The Vikings, who are ranked No. 4 in Class 3-A, will play West Noble (10-3) in a first-round game. Valley has won nine in a row since its lone loss, a 42-32 final to Warsaw back on Nov. 17.
The Warsaw girls squad will host its own annual TCU Lady Tiger Tournament Dec. 27. The team is off to a fine 9-3 start under first-year coach Lenny Krebs. Warsaw, which hosts Norwell on Friday night, will play Mishawaka (6-7) in its own tourney.
The NorthWood girls team will play four games in two days at the Bankers Classic hosted by Northridge Dec. 29-30. The Panthers, who play at Bremen Thursday night, are 9-3 after a loss Tuesday night to Class 3-A No. 6 Fairfield.
Wawasee will play in the Plymouth tourney on Dec. 30. Coach Matt Carpenter’s team, which is 6-6, will face Norwell and Brebeuf.

The boys side will have Warsaw playing in the first Champions of Character Classic at Grace College on Dec. 30. The Tigers, who snapped a five-game losing streak with a 67-49 home win over Whitko Wednesday night, are 3-5. Warsaw will play Zionsville and Fishers.
The Champions of Character Classic features Class 4-A No. 7 Zionsville, which is 5-0, and No. 11 Valparaiso, which is 6-0. Fishers is coached by former Grace College player and assistant coach Matt Moore. Moore, a native of Columbia City, is in his first season at Fishers after coaching at Kokomo High School the past three years.
