ELKHART COUNTY — Joseph Whitehead, 20, Goshen, lost his life in a two-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning on SR 119, north of CR 9. The intersection is four miles southwest of Goshen.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reported Whitehead was traveling southwest on SR 119 in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT, north of CR 9, when the vehicle struck an area of drifting snow, causing it to slide sideways. The vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2004 Ford Explorer, driven by David Goehring, 44, Bremen. Goehring was traveling northeast on SR 119 at the time of the accident.

Whitehead was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police report Whitehead’s vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side and Goehring’s vehicle sustained front end damage. Goehring was taken to Goshen Hospital for head and leg injuries. The crash is still under investigation.
