Doris A. Walter
Doris A. Walter, 79, Greencroft, Manor 4, Goshen, formerly of New Paris, died 3:43 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, where she resided at for three years. She was the daughter of Floyd and Marian (Schrock) Weldy and was born on Jan. 23, 1938, in Wakarusa. On June 1, 1956, she married Donald E. Walter at Union Center Church of the Brethren.
Surviving is her husband, Don, Goshen, sons, Kent (Karen) Walter, Nappanee, Edward Walter, New Paris, a daughter, Melody Sandlin, Goshen, 4 brothers, Harold Weldy, Goshen, and Fla., Roy Weldy, Nappanee, Dale Weldy, Liberty, Ky., Wade Weldy, Elkhart, 6 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Weldy.
Doris was a 1956 graduate of New Paris High School. She was an active member at the Union Center Church of the Brethren where she enjoyed helping in Sunday School, youth activities and missions work. She was on the church softball team for many years.
Doris and Don did volunteer work by coordinating Christmas programs at Westville Prison for many years. They spent many winters in Sarasota, Fla., where they loved to volunteer. They supported the Galilean Home in Liberty, Ky., since the early 80’s and helped with fundraising.
She retired after 25 years of employment as bookkeeper from Burger Dairy in New Paris. After retiring, she spent many years as a volunteer at Greencroft in laundry.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Thursday, Nov. 16, at Union Center Church of the Brethren, 70535 CR 11, Nappanee. Rev. Frank Ramirez and Rev. Rhonda Dorn will officiate. Burial will take place in Union Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Galilean Childrens Home, Liberty, Ky.
