American Legion And VFW Celebrate Veterans Day
WARSAW — “Veterans put others first. Today is Veterans Day. Today is a day that we put Veterans first,” said John C. Peterson Post 49 Commander Bruce Knouff at the American Legion Post 49 and VFW 1126 Veterans Day program Saturday afternoon, Nov. 11.
American Legion hosted a program to honor the Veterans who served and fought for the freedom of the United States in honor of Veterans Day. The event spent time celebrating those from Kosciusko who served with a reading of the names who never returned from their service. Knouff talked about the value of a veteran’s service as many too often fail “to realize that it was not the campus agitator who ensured [the] First Amendment rights” but that “it was the military veteran.”
Those lost were honored with a 21 gun salute with Taps and a tolling of the bells. The Kosciusko County Extension Choir sang a variety of songs including the Armed Forces Medley and the Warsaw JROTC posted the colors.
Post 49 member Ken Locke presented David Morales with the Meritorious Service Award and The Rev Roy Blake with the “Order of Kosciuszko”.
