Kosciusko Gives Back At First Friday
WARSAW — Hundreds of Kosciusko residents came together Friday night to give back to their community, helping to fill a dump truck full of goods for local nonprofits. Local G&G Hauling and Excavating sponsored the “Thanks-For-Giving” themed First Friday.
Providing a standard size quad-axle dump truck, G&G challenged First Friday visitors to bring with them needed items, such as toiletries, canned goods, cold weather outerwear and toys, to give to local nonprofits. Bringing an item allowed guests to participate in events, like a scavenger hunt and excavator simulator. Around 3,380 pounds and over $2000 were collected and will be split evenly amongst local nonprofits.
G&G, partnered with MacAllister, provided equipment exhibits and demonstrations featuring dump trucks, haul trucks, excavators and more, giving visitors an up close look at the large equipment. Those over the age of 18 could attempt to control an excavator, being provided the challenging task of picking a tennis ball off of a construction cone and dropping it into a bucket. Younger patrons were given the opportunity to drive an excavator simulator.
Kids flocked to the excavator demonstration at 6:30 p.m., where a dinosaur-like painted Caterpillar hydraulic excavator “attacked” a bike before moving on to a mini van as the crowed cheered loudly. A second demonstration occurred at 8 p.m.
Following the theme, a pet rock painting station and sand pit with buried goodies were also available for kids and adults alike.
