Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest
KOSCIUSKO — A Warsaw male failed to yield the right-of-way to an officer and a traffic stop ensued. The man was found to be in possession of heroin, methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia.
Aaron John Hoffman, 33, 3434 W. Doe Court, Warsaw, is being charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony; and driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor.
On Oct. 23, an officer with the Winona Lake Police Department was northbound on CR 100E. A black dodge Challenger was stopped at a stop sign and drove into the path of the officer’s vehicle, failing to yield the right-of-way. The officer had to swerve in order to avoid a collision.
The officer then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Hoffman. Hoffman’s driver’s license was discovered to be suspended prior and he was arrested.
A Warsaw Police Officer arrived on scene with his canine and conducted an outer air search of the vehicle. The canine alerted to the odor of drugs. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered ziploc and corner bags with a powdery residue, scales, a smoking pipe, straws, a syringe, a glass bong and several other pieces of drug paraphernalia. The residue tested positive for heroin.
Hoffman was then transported to the Kosciusko County Jail. While being booked, jail officers found several small plastic straws and a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.
