WARSAW — Official charges have been filed against Sherry Lynn Gatke, 38, 504 W. Center St., Warsaw, and her son Kyle William Hamman, 19, 4416 W. 525S, Claypool.
The pair were arrested Sept. 11 on initial charges. Gatke has officially been charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, both level 6 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. Hamman has officially been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of a syringe, all level 6 felonies.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, filed Sept. 25 in Kosciusko Circuit Court, Warsaw police met with a caseworker with the Department of Child Services regarding a home visit concerning the welfare of a small child and to make contact with Gatke. Gatke invited the caseworker and officer inside the residence and advised the child was in a bedroom. Officials went into the bedroom and saw the child in a high chair in the presence of Alisha Hoover. On the dresser, the officer observed a black scale with a crystal like residue on the surface of the scale. That residue tested positive for methamphetamine.
Consent was given by Gatke to search her bedroom, where police found numerous smoking devices with burnt residue. The residue on two of those devices tested positive for methamphetamine. Police also found a bag containing a plant material, identified as marijuana; and three pills, one being alprazolam and the other two as diazepam, both controlled substances. Identifying information was found in the room that indicated the room belonged to Gatke.
It was learned Hamman had his own bedroom at the residence and police found a room with a sign stating “Kyle’s Room.” Hamman, who was present, gave permission to search that room. There officers found a plastic bag containing a white residue that tested positive for heroin, another plastic bag that contained a crystal like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 1.9 grams. Three syringes were also found.
