UPDATE — Bicyclist Struck By Vehicle On Old Road 30
WARSAW — Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a motor vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Old Road 30 West and Riverwood Ranch Road near Warsaw. A male bicycle operator was critically injured in the crash.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel responded at 10:52 p.m. Friday evening, Sept. 22, to a reported crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle on Old Road 30 West at Riverwood Ranch Road. The crash involved a westbound 2008 Mercury traveling on Old Road 30 that struck a bicycle also traveling west on Old Road 30. The operator of the Mercury was identified as Joshua Hurd, 42, Warsaw. Hurd was not injured during the incident. The operator of the bicycle was identified as Mark Whitaker, 34, Warsaw. Whitaker sustained critical injuries during the crash and was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries. Whitaker remains in critical condition at this time. The time of day and visibility of the bicyclist are considered to be a factors in this crash.
Deputies stated that the crash is still currently under investigation. The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Warsaw Fire Department and Lutheran EMS.
