Billy C. ‘Bill’ George
Billy C. “Bill” George, 79, Wakarusa died at 12:45 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Milford after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937 in Hepton to Herbert and Mabel (Ervin) George. He lived his lifetime in the Wakarusa area.
Bill attended Wakarusa High School. On June 16, 1957, he married Donna Sutheimer in Nappanee. She preceded in death May 4, 2009.
Mr. George was the owner of George Buildings for over 50 years and was a farmer. He raised and sold many steers and heifers to 4-H children across the United States. He served on the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board for many years and was a 4-H leader for over 40 years. Bill was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nappanee where he served as usher and often did maintenance and improvements for the church. He was a member of Nappanee Raceway, and Elkhart County Cattleman Association.
Surviving are his daughters, Kelly (Todd) Ropp, Wakarusa, Jill Henderson, Goshen, Pam (Ryan) Vander Wey, Goshen; grandchildren, Tory (Ashley) Vander Wey, Taylor (Brad) Howard, Brandi Henderson; 4 great grandchildren; and brother Ronnie George, Eclectic, AL. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and brothers, Wayne and Keith George.
Family and friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 at Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board Room where funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 22. Pastor Jessica King will officiate. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Foundation.
