BOURBON – There are going to be days, and Saturday seemed to be one of them for the Triton volleyball team. What looked to be a fine day turned into a head scratcher for Triton after finishing a shocking runner-up to John Glenn at its home invite.
Triton rolled through its pool play matches, claiming a 25-15, 25-22 win over LaVille, a 25-8, 25-15 win over Culver and sweeping pool play with a 25-20, 25-21 result over Bremen. Entering the championship round with John Glenn, a team it went five games in a loss to open the 2017 season, Triton had revenge on its mind.
After taking game one 25-21, the title was in sight, until Glenn stormed back for a surprising 25-11 romp in game two. In the title game, play leveled with the match tied at 14, forcing the extra point to decide. Glenn took the 16-15 lead, then came away with the final point to close out 17-15 and champions of the tournament.
Stat leaders for Triton on the day included Nicole Sechrist with 30 kills and six blocks, Hannah Wanemacher with 50 assists, Taytum Hargrave with seven aces, Sydney Musilli with 28 digs and Abby Viers with six blocks.
Glenn reached the finals with three comfortable wins over Argos, Knox and Oregon-Davis.
