County Council Approves Two More Budgets
KOSCIUSKO — The Kosciusko County Council approved two more department budgets during the council budget meeting on Thursday, Aug. 24.
The first budget heard was the Solid Waste budget. Director Thomas Ganser presented the budget. He explained that there are two dramatic increases in the 2018 budget from previous years.
The first increase is due to purchasing a new vehicle for the department. The current truck is an older model with many miles. While the department will keep the truck for daily work around town, an additional used vehicle will be purchased for out of town trips.
The second increase is due to the wages of the Solid Waste staff. A wage survey was done on staff wide and it was discovered that there were significant differences in what staff should be paid and what they were currently paid. A new pay scale was developed that mimics the county’s pay scale.
“The differences there are bringing folks up to speed,” explained Ganser. The council voted to approve the budget.
Veterans Affairs Officer Rich Maron presented the Veteran’s Services budget. He had no changes to report and the budget was approved without discussion.
Maron did note that on Nov. 8, the county will be holding a Military Stand Down event. This will be a joint project to bring health, financial, career and other help to county veterans. More information will be released on this event later on.
