UPDATE — Driver Identified In Claypool Fatal Crash
KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a motor vehicle traffic crash on CR 700S at CR 600W near Claypool. One male subject has died from his injuries which resulted from the crash.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday afternoon, Aug. 18, at 2:11 p.m. to a reported two-vehicle crash located at the intersection of 700 South and 600 West. The crash involved a southbound 2012 Chevy approaching the intersection of 700 South on 600 West. The 2012 Chevy failed to yield the right of way at the intersection, colliding with the side of a 1995 Kenworth that was traveling west on CR 700S.
The operator of the 2012 Chevy has been identified as William Johnson, 70, Claypool. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the accident.
The operator of the 1995 Kenworth semi was identified at Michael Nelson, 80, Burket. Michael Nelson reported only minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Officers stated that the crash is still currently under investigation. The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Mentone Fire Department, Mentone EMS, Burket Fire Department, Mentone Police Department, Kosciusko County Emergency Management, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
