UPDATE — One Person Dead After Claypool Accident
KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a motor vehicle traffic crash on CR 700S at CR 600W near Claypool. One male subject has died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday afternoon, Aug. 18, at 2:11 p.m. to a reported two-vehicle crash located at the intersection of CR 700S and CR 600W. The crash involved a southbound 2012 Chevy approaching the intersection of CR 700S on CR 600W. The 2012 Chevy failed to yield the right of way at the intersection, colliding with the side of a 1995 Kenworth that was traveling west on CR 700S. A male occupant was found unresponsive in the 2012 Chevy and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office. The operator of the 1995 Kenworth semi was identified as Michael Nelson, 80, of Burket. Michael Nelson reported only minor injuries as a result of the collision. The identity of the operator of the 2012 Chevy will be released after completion of family notifications.
Officers stated that the crash is still currently under investigation. The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Mentone Fire Department, Mentone EMS, Burket Fire Department, Mentone Police Department, Kosciusko County Emergency Management, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
