White Charged With Aiding In North Webster Theft
NORTH WEBSTER — Cherry Lynn White, 47, 115 EMS W30 Lane, North Webster, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 15, on a charge of aiding, inducing, causing theft, a class A misdemeanor. That charge has been enhanced to theft, a level 6 felony due to a conviction on May 10. She is being held on $5,250 surety and cash bond.
White’s charges stem from knowingly or intentionally aiding Terry Bailey to exert unauthorized control over consumable goods at NewMarket, North Webster. Bailey was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 15.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed against White, North Webster police were notified on July 16, by the manager at NewMarket and two witnesses of the theft. Police were advised they observed a man, later identified as Bailey, leave through the south door of NewMarket carrying three cases of beer. One witness stated he knew something was wrong as it was Sunday and beer is not sold on that day. Another witness stated she observed Bailey leave the store with a grocery cart with three cases of Budweiser and several packages of steaks without paying.
One of the witnesses tried to stop Bailey but Bailey entered a Pontiac Aztec. with a temporary tag. The vehicle left south on SR 13 and was driven by a female, later identified as White.
The investigating officer went to a residence where he was familiar with such a vehicle and spoke with a female at that residence. The female told police White had possession of that vehicle on the day in question. Bailey was identified by a witness from photos.
Bailey, when confronted by police, stated he needed money and someone had purchased the beer and steaks from him for half price. Bailey admitted taking the items from NewMarket and told police White took the items to the buyer.
White was convicted in Kosciusko County superior Court 3 on May 10 for theft.
