Prep Gridders Set For Scrimmages
Area high school football teams will go through their dress rehearsals come Friday night.
The annual scrimmages will take place for local squads after they have spent the past two weeks in preseason practices.
Warsaw will scrimmage at Tippecanoe Valley at 7 p.m. Friday night. The Tigers are coming off a 6-5 campaign, while the Vikings were 3-7 in 2016. Valley welcomes new coach Stephen Moriarty, a 1995 Valley graduate who was an assistant coach in the program last year.
Wawasee will show off its new turf field, installed this summer, as the Warriors host Mishawaka Marian at 7 p.m. in Syracuse. Wawasee went 4-6 and Marian was 11-2 a year ago. Mike Eshbach is the new man in charge of the Warrior program.
Triton will travel to Manchester to scrimmage the host Squires at 6 p.m. The Trojans were 2-9 during the 2016 campaign, as were the Squires.
NorthWood takes its squad up the road north to Rice Field to partner with Elkhart Central for its scrimmage at 6 p.m. The Panthers were 14-1 and Class 4-A state runner-up a year ago. Central, which welcomes in new coach Josh Shattuck, finished 2-8 a season ago.
The season opens for “real” on August 18. Warsaw will welcome Columbia City to Fisher Field at 7 p.m. Wawasee will host Lakeland and NorthWood entertains Jimtown, both at 7 p.m. Tippecanoe Valley will travel to Bremen and Triton will host South Newton, with both of those contests set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
