Penn Soccer Ladies Check In At No. 1 Nationally
MISHAWAKA — The Penn High School girls soccer team enters the 2017 season loaded from top to bottom.
It’s a fact that is not going overlooked either.
Penn, which won the Class 2-A state title a year ago, enters this campaign as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, according to Top Drawer Soccer.
The Kingsmen return eight starters from last season’s team which beat Indianapolis Brebeuf 2-0 in the state title match. Penn had lost to Brebeuf in the 2015 title game.
Penn, which is 41-1-3 over the last two seasons, is led by Kristina Lynch, the 2016 Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year and a Florida State recruit. The squad also features junior Brooke VanDyke, who recently committed to Notre Dame.
Penn opens its season Aug. 18-19 in the South Bend St. Joseph Indian Invitational at Newton Park in Lakeville.
