Former Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Officer Files Complaint Over Pension
WARSAW — A former officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department has filed a complaint with the Kosciusko County Merit Board over his pension.
In June 2014, while on duty, former Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer John Ayres suffered from an injury that resulted in damage and immobility to his right wrist. The injury left him unable to perform his duties as an officer in the field.
The suit claims that during a meeting with the Merit Board held last December regarding Ayres’ disability claim, it was confirmed that Ayres would receive a pension of $2,098.01 per month.
The claim goes on to state that Ayres failed to receive his presumed monthly benefit after it had been established in December.
On June 27, Ayres received a formal notice, through his counsel, of an April 18 decision of the Merit Board that would effectively revoke the decision made in December of Ayres’ disability benefit of $2,098.01 per month and instead decided to award him a permanent disability benefit of $1,407.78 per month.
The claim states that Ayres is requesting the original decision to award him a pension of $2,098.01 be reinstated.
