Zachary Files For District 1 Vacancy In Winona Lake
WINONA LAKE — James Zachary, 206 Fifth St., Winona Lake, has filed to fill for the District 1 vacancy in Winona Lake.
Zachary seeks to fill the vacancy left by former council member Peter Christos. Christos officially resigned from his position on the Winona Lake Town Council with a letter of resignation dated July 10, one day prior to being convicted of two misdemeanors.
Zachary has lived in the Winona Lake area for the last 12 years, the last four years in his current district. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 2000. He works for Zimmer Biomet in new product introductions.
The council seat hopeful says he has been interested in local government for quite some time and has been attending Winona Lake Town Council meetings throughout the year. When the position opened up unexpectedly, Zachary considered running. After being encouraged to run by both current and former public officials, he filed to fill the seat.
Zachary says Winona Lake has been in good shape financially for years and he hopes to help continue that trend if he were elected.
Zachary’s daughter Haylee is a Junior at Warsaw Community High School.
Currently, Zachary is the only person to apply for the position.
A caucus will take place to fill the vacancy at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8 in the Winona Lake Town Hall Chambers.
The Precinct Committeeman designation must be filed with the Chairman Mike Ragan at 1458 East CR 75N, Warsaw 46582, at least 72 hours prior to the caucus in order to have a Precinct Committeeman vote as the Precinct Committeeman proxy. A proxy may not be revoked after it is filed.
Members of the caucus, candidates, designated caucus staff, Republican Party Officials, duly appointed watchers and members of the news media shall be eligible to attend the caucus.
A member of the Winona Lake Town Council, District 1 shall be elected by secret ballot of the majority of members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office.
