Gargett Lone Candidate For Township Board
SYRACUSE — Sylvia Gargett, Syracuse, is the lone candidate for the open seat on the Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board. A Republican caucus of Turkey Creek Township Precinct Committeemen, to appoint Gargett to the board, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, in the Syracuse Town Hall.
The vacancy was created after former board member Kimberly Cates was elected to fill the vacancy on the county council June 7.
Gargett stated she was asked to run for the position and after some thought decided to continue to share her time and talents with the community. Because of her community involvement she has knowledge of finances and budgets of organizations, as well as the needs of the community.
She is an assistant to Scott Beasley at Northern Lakes Insurance in Syracuse, where she has worked since 2005. In this position she works with clients on commercial and personal insurance.
Gargett moved to Syracuse in 1978 and has been active in the community. She has served on the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce board for 12 years and is in her first term on the Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary Club board. She has also been appointed to the finance committee for St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Syracuse.
She has two children: Patrick, Anderson; and Lori Prescott, South Carolina, and four grandchildren.
