Maxwelton Hosting Conrad Golf Fundraiser
SYRACUSE – The unfortunate passing of two of Syracuse’s beloved has opened the door to provide for others.
The first running of the Kim and Stephen Conrad Golf Fundraiser will take place July 31 at Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse. The purpose of the event, which also celebrates the lives of the Conrads, who passed away Christmas night in a car accident, will serve as a scholarship fund for Wawasee High School graduates who look to continue in the field of education.
The scholarship is open to athletes who excelled in golf, basketball, cheerleading and gymnastics, sports to which the Conrads had direct impact at Wawasee High School. Stephen Conrad was a standout golfer and was part of a successful run of Wawasee hoops in the early 2000s. Conrad later golfed in college and held a professional status while working for a country club in rural Phoenix, Ariz. Kim Conrad served the high school and athletic community as a cheerleading and gymnastics coach, a gymnastics official and ardent supporter of Wawasee athletics. Kim’s other two sons, Michael and Jeffrey, were also athletes at Wawasee in football, basketball and golf.
The charity outing at Maxwelton will have 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. shotgun starts for men’s, women’s and mixed teams. There will be closest to the pin, 50/50 putting contests, longest putt and long drive contests along the course.
Cost is $400 per team, with proceeds going towards the scholarships. Hole and tee sponsorships are also sought ahead of the event.
