Sandbags, Marble Floors and Storm Cleanup Discussed At Commissioners Meeting
WARSAW — At the Tuesday, May 30, Kosciusko County commissioners meeting, Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock addressed board members, stating that there had been complaints recently regarding flooding in the Barbee Chain area. The Barbee Chain of Lakes, located northeast of Warsaw, is composed of seven interconnected lakes and formed by retreating glaciers during the Ice Age. The chain of Barbee lakes has approximately 2,300 residences spread throughout the lakes. Rock said there are now sandbags available at the North Webster Community Center for anyone who needs them.
Kosciusko County Administrator Marsha McSherry advised board members that the marble floors in the Kosciusko County Justice Building, Warsaw, are almost done being stripped and waxed. Earlier this month, McSherry had presented a bid to the commissioners from Summit City Building Maintenance, Fort Wayne, for floor waxing services. The bid, which was approved and accepted by board members, included stripping and waxing all three floors of the Justice Building, with all work to be done by hand.
Kosciusko County Commissioner Vice-President Bob Conley commented, “If you saw the floors before and after, there is such a dramatic difference in the floors,” which led to board members joking that the marble floors now look “marblelous.”
Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden presented a speed limit ordinance for CR 600S, located between County Farm Road and Country Club Road, Warsaw, with the speed limit set at 45 mph. This was approved by board members.
Tilden informed board members that the Kosciusko County Highway Department had been busy over the Memorial Day weekend doing cleanup work from damage caused by thunderstorms Friday night. Tilden said the damage was mainly in the Claypool and Silver Lake areas, citing some road closures due to high water as well as tree limb clean up. Kosciusko County Commissioner Ron Truex said he would like to point out that the Highway Department did not have a weekend off.
