North Webster Honors Fallen Soldiers

The Honor Guard fires their rifles at North Webster Cemetery in honor of fallen soldiers, particularly those lost from Post 253.
NORTH WEBSTER—American Legion Post 253 led the Memorial Day Parade in North Webster Monday morning, May 29. Wawasee Middle School band followed into North Webster Cemetery along with the North Webster Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts .
Bob Harding introduced the speakers, beginning with Chaplain Phil Smith who led all those in attendance in a Memorial Day prayer. The Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts of North Webster then led everyone in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Star Spangled Banner was played by the Wawasee Middle School band followed by the Sergeant at Arms placing a wreath of flowers in front of the memorial as “a token of our enduring memory.”
Cap’n Bob Barnes then sang God Bless America before Harding introduced their speaker for the service. Post 253 Commander Mark Hazelet spoke about the number of soldiers the U.S. has lost throughout the country’s history, specifically the staggering numbers of soldiers lost during World War II.
Cap’n Barnes then led everyone at the service in singing God Bless the USA. Post 253’s Adjutant Tom Plew read from the Fallen Comrade Memorial list all those who had been lost from Post 253 along with the war they had fought in. The Honor Guard then fired a 21-gun salute to honor the fallen soldiers.
Harding completed the Memorial Day service at North Webster Cemetery by thanking all those who had helped with the parade and setup for the service.
