Caucus Set June 21 To Appoint New Sheriff
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The caucus to elect a sheriff in Kosciusko County will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21. It will be held in the historic Kosciusko County courtroom at 100 W. Center St., Warsaw.The individual elected will fill the remaining term of former sheriff C. Aaron Rovenstine, whose term expires Dec. 31, 2018.
Rovenstine had to relinquish is position Tuesday, May 23, after being sentenced on a felony charge of intimidation.
Members of the caucus, candidates, Republican Party officials, designated caucus staff, duly appointed watchers, and members of the news media are eligible to attend the caucus.
While no individual has officially filed, there have been indications eight individuals may be seeking the position at the caucus.
There are 69 Republican precinct men and women eligible to vote in the caucus. They must have been in position for 30 continuous days before the caucus. Candidates will be allowed three minutes to address the caucus.
The sheriff candidates must be Republicans “in good standing” and will be elected by secret ballot and must receive the majority of votes from the voting caucus.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of the Kosciusko County Clerk, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw and must be filed with Kosciusko County Republican Chairman Mike Ragan at 1458 E. 75N Warsaw, IN 46582 no later than 72 hours prior to the caucus.
