WaNee School Corporation Announces Class Of 2017 Valedictorians And Salutatorians
NAPPANEE — WaNee School Corporation has announced the valedictorians of the Northwood High School Class of 2017 are Courten Clark, Caleb Darr, Desirae Diamond, Lee Dougherty, Sarah Foster, Erin Graber, Andrew Minnich, Vincent Miranda, Cameron Stillson and Hannah Walter. The Salutatorians are Sara Bowling, Ana Martinez, Summer Stillson and Joshua Weldy.
Cameron Stillson and Hannah Walter will be commencement speakers.
VALEDICTORIANS
Courten Clark is the son of Kent and Connie Clark. Courten was the city of Nappanee Legislative Body Youth Advisor for 2016-17 and is a member of National Honor Society. He has been awarded the Thomas Goodwin Memorial Scholarship as well as the Elkhart County IUSB Scholarship. Courten will attend IUSB and major in criminal justice with a minor in Spanish.
Caleb Darr is the son of David and Wendy Darr. Caleb participated in Cross County where he was voted MVP, Captain, a Mental Attitude Award winner and a Semi-State qualifier. He is a member of National Honor Society and a varsity member of the State Championship Science team. Caleb will attend Purdue University and major in engineering.
Desirae Diamond is the daughter of Leonard and Regina Diamond. Desirae was a member of the Cross Country team where she was a four-year Scholar Athlete. She is a member of Student Council and is a member of National Honor Society. Desirae is a member of the Knee Deep 4-H Club where she serves as Secretary. She has earned the Titan Gold and Honor Society Scholarships from IUSB where she will attend for pre-veterinary science.
Lee Dougherty is the son of John and Lorene Dougherty. Lee is a member of National Honor Society and Captain of the Math and Interdisciplinary Academic teams. He is an Eagle Scout from Nappanee Troop 733. Lee will attend Trine University to major in mechanical engineering.
Sarah Foster is the daughter of John and Tricia Foster. Sarah was a member of Student Council and served as Senior Class President. She is a member of the State Champion Science team. Sarah received a Faculty Scholarship from Grace College where she will attend to major in worship arts.
Erin Graber is the daughter of Terry and Delane Graber. She was a member of the Basketball team where she was named Co-Captain, a Mental Attitude Award winner, and named to the ICGSA Academic All-State team. Erin is a member of the Business Professionals of America where she placed at the National Competition in Interview Skills. Erin is a member of National Honor Society and a member of Student Council where she served as Vice-President. She was a recipient of the Indiana 4-H Foundation Senior Year Scholarship. Erin will attend Goshen College to study accounting.
Andrew Minnich is the son of Darren and Lisa Minnich. He was a member of the Football team where he was named Captain, All-NLC, Academic All-State, Moose Krause Scholar Athlete, Colts Academic Super Team, the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award and The Indiana Scholar Athlete of the Year. He is a member of the baseball team where he serves as captain, and has been named All-NLC, and the Indiana Junior Top 50 by the IBCA. Andrew is a member of National Honor Society. Andrew will attend Cedarville University where he plans to study chemistry and play baseball.
Vincent Miranda is the son of Martin and Angie Miranda. He has participated in basketball where he was named MVP and captain, and a member of the baseball team where was named MVP. Vincent is a member of National Honor Society. He was named a Richard Lugar Scholar. He will attend Taylor University to study biochemistry and play basketball.
Cameron Stillson is the son of Andrew and Shawn Stillson. He was a member of the tennis team, where he was named Captain and voted MVP. He was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and was awarded the Claude and Hanna Kegerreis Scholarship. Cameron is a member of National Honor Society where he serves as President. He will attend the John Wesley Honors College at Indiana Wesleyan University and study Christian ministries.
Hannah Walter is the daughter of Ken and Michaela Walter. She attended Hoosier Girls State where she was the State Treasurer, and National Senator. Hannah was a member of the tennis and cross country teams where she was named Captain, earned Mental Attitude awards, and was named Academic All-State. She was the Nappanee Apple Blossom Queen and a runner-up at the Indiana State Festival Association. Hannah was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen of Elkhart County. She is a member of National Honor Society and President of Student Council. She is a member of The Business Professionals of America where she was a National Finalist in Economic Research and Vice President. Hannah will attend Purdue University to study biochemistry and Spanish as a member of the Honor’s Program.
SALUTATORIANS
Sara Bowling is the daughter of Margie Bowling and Corey Bowling. Sara is a member of National Honor Society where she serves as vice president. She is a member of the Indiana All State Jazz Choir. Sara was the recipient of the Dorothy Zimmerman Vocal Music Scholarship. She will attend Ball State University.
Ana Martinez is the daughter of Juvenal and Maria Martinez. Ana is a member of National Honor Society and a member of key club where she serves on the board. She is a Lilly Endowment Scholarship recipient. Ana will attend St. Mary’s College to major in chemistry and minor in Spanish.
Summer Stillson is the daughter of Jeff and Angie Stillson. She was a member of the Girl’s Golf and Softball teams where she earned Captain and MVP honors, as well as All- State Academic and All-State First Team. Summer was the recipient of the Mitchell J. Winger Courage Award. Summer is a member of National Honor Society and was a four-year member of Student Council. She was awarded the David E. Simon Golf Scholarship. Summer will attend St. Mary’s College to study computer science.
Joshua Weldy is the son of John and Melanie Weldy. Joshua was a member of the soccer team where he was named the Defensive MVP. He was a member of Key Club. Joshua will attend Purdue University to study engineering.
