Local Boy Scouts Test Outdoor Knowledge
KOSCIUSKO — Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from Lincolnway District, which consist of Whitley and Kosciusko counties, recently spent the weekend at the Mizpah Shrine Horse Grounds, just north of Columbia City.
The Boy Scouts, ages 11-18, got to show “how sharp their knife was”. No, they weren’t brandishing their favorite blades, they were being tested on their knowledge of the outdoors. They camped all weekend and on Saturday tested their knowledge on things such as identifying fish, leaves, types of wood, plants, animal tracks and more. At the end of the day there was a cooking competition where some amazing food prepared for the judges.
The Cub Scouts, boys in kindergarten to fifth grade, enjoyed playing games that were popular 50 years ago as they helped celebrate the centennial anniversary of Anthony Wayne Area Council. Along with those, the young scouts had lessons in safety at the shooting ranges and then got to practice shooting at the always popular archery, bb guns and slingshots ranges.
