TRC Track: Whitko Reigns Supreme
MARION — Twice is nice for the Whitko boys track team. The Wildcats captured the Three Rivers Conference title for the second year in a row Tuesday evening. Whitko put up 123.5 points to take the team title, beating out second place Peru’s 98-point effort. Manchester won the women’s meet with 108.5 points, escaping North Miami’s 101-point performance. Tippecanoe Valley took sixth in the boy’s meet while and 10th in the the girl’s competition.
Gavin Howard was a double winner for Whitko, taking first in discus (142-7) and in shot put (47-11.75) while Alex Wilson won the 200 (22.82) for the ‘Cats. Whitko’s 4×4 relay team of Garrett Elder, Zack Freel, Conner Sherwin, and Shad Ebbinghouse also took ran a first place time of 3:37.63.
Elder added two second place finishes in the long jump (20-2) and the 100 (11.45). Ebbinghouse had two second places in the high hurdles (16.61) and the 300 hurdles (43.15). Sherwin was second in the discus (136-1). Elder, Chase Meade, Alex Wilson and Ebbinghouse took second in the 4×1 relay with a time of 45.15.
Suzanne Sickafoose won the 100 with a blazing time of 13.27 for the Whitko girls team. She also took second in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.07.
For Valley, Sarah Tucker took third in the 100 (13.72) for the highest finish of the day for the ladies. On the boys side, Dakota Parker was second in the 400 meter dash (51.66) while 4×4 relay team took second with a time of 3:38.98. In the field, Will Hassenplug and Jameson Baker took second and third in the shot put, respectively.
