David B. Diffendarfer
David B. Diffendarfer, 94, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City.
He was born on May 18, 1922 in Columbia City a son of the late Verne, Sr. and Anne (Carter) Diffendarfer. He grew up in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1940.
On Jan. 22, 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. David was honorably discharged Jan. 2, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Garnet E. Walker on Oct. 25, 1941. They made their home in Columbia City and later Loon Lake for three year before returning to Columbia City. Garnet died Feb. 13, 2007.
He was employed by the Whitley County REMC from 1946 until 1985. He then worked as a delivery driver for RJ Bagan from 1993 until 2002.
He is survived by four grandchildren, Jason Byers, Shane Diffendarfer, Amy Taylor and David Herbst and a brother, Verne A. Diffendarfer, Jr.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Diffendarfer and a daughter, Lisa A. Bowers.
In accordance with the request of David, a private family only visitation will be held at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The internment will be in the Greenhill Cemetery.
