Whitko Sports Wrap: April 25
Baseball
The Wildcats reigned supreme at Parkview Field Tuesday afternoon. Whitko downed county rival Columbia City 12-5, thanks to a seven-run sixth innings.
River West pitched four innings of relief to get the win for Whitko, striking out five in the process. Drew Bradford was 2-3 at the dish for the ‘Cats with three runs scored. Bailey Platt and Zach Hewitt were each 2-4 with a pair of RBIs for the winning side. City was led by Dillon Reed who was 3-4 with three RBIs. Zach Platt took the loss on the mound for the Eagles.
Whitko (13-1) hosts Southwood Wednesday night. Columbia City falls to 0-10 on the year.
Softball
A heroic hit from Faith Leist sent the Whitko softball team packing Tuesday evening. Leist and Huntington North walked-off in the tenth inning for a 3-2 win over the visiting Wildcats.
The Wildcats tied things up 2-2 in the sixth, but were held scoreless the rest of the way, stuck watching North get the win. Kennedy Krull, Ellie Snep and Anna Ousley were the only Wildcats to get hits in Tuesday’s contest.
Whitko (12-2) host Southwood Wednesday night.
Tennis
The Whitko Lady Wildcats tennis team came away with a clean sweep of Northrop Tuesday night, winning 5-0.
Morgan Keirn downed Alyssa Nolan 6-0, 6-0 at one singles. Delaney Keirn defeated Neda Vasevski 6-0, 6-1 at two singles while Jackie Werstler beat Brenda Mai 6-1, 6-1 at three singles.
At one doubles, Jessica and Gracie Hook stumbled in the beginning against Mallory Potter and Duyen Luc, losing the first set 6-2, but came on strong in the last two sets, taking the match 6-3, 6-3. Jenna VanCuren and Manon Sonneville continued their winning ways at two doubles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Abby Wyman and Thi Pham.
The junior varsity also claimed victory over the Bruins, winning 3-2. Winning for the Wildcats were Natalie Iholtz, Kayla Schipper, and the doubles duo of Izzy Rayner and Katherine Ousley.
The Wildcats are back in action Thursday at home against conference foe Wabash starting at 5 p.m.
