Girls Tennis
LaVille defended its home tennis court Wednesday to pick up a 3-2 Hoosier North Athletic Conference win over Triton.
Rachel Ross’ rally at one singles over Kolbie Mason was the ticket for LaVille. After Mason rolled in the first set, 6-0, Ross came back to take the second 7-5 then closed out a 6-2 winner.
Charlet Kapke beat Siera Sauer at three singles 6-4, 6-2 and the two doubles team of Savannah Lucas and Emily Cain took out Kaylene Slabaugh and Kendra Morris 6-1, 6-0.
Triton wins came from Quinn Downing, a 6-0, 6-1 result on Emily Cole at two singles, and the one doubles team of Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross beat Brianna Lindke and Sydney Han 6-0, 6-1.
Triton evens up at 3-3 and 2-1 in the HNAC.
Triton will play again next Wednesday in another conference match against North Judson.
Track
Triton hosted Knox and LaVille Wednesday.
The Lady Trojans had Abigail Powell and Baylee McIntire both win two events which helped Triton beat LaVille 54-50, but Knox trumped them both with 64 team points. The Trojan boys scored 34 points, well behind Knox’s 81 and LaVille’s 53.
Powell won both hurdles events, going 16.6 in the 100 and 49.7 in the 300. McIntire won the 400 at 1:03 and the long jump at 15-5. Katie Hepler added a win in pole vault (no height given) and the Triton 4×400 relay team won at 4:44.
Tyler Heckaman had the lone boys result for the Trojans with a high jump win of 5-4.
Triton will compete in Friday’s Warrior Relays hosted by North Miami.
