Velma L. Clark
Velma L. Clark, 95, of Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Jan. 20, 2017 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare in LaFontaine.
She was born to the late Ezra and Effie (Morris) Bowlds on September 1, 1921 in Ohio County, Kentucky.
Velma was a 1940 graduate of Hartford Kentucky High School and from Bible College. After high school she taught at missionary schools in eastern Kentucky. She married the love of her life, Derrel H. Clark on Aug. 23, 1944, who passed away Aug. 5, 1984.
After World War II she and Derrel began their family in Owensboro. Later they lived in New York, Ohio, central Indiana, before settling in Indianapolis.
Velma was a homemaker who loved her flower gardens and bible study. She was a longtime member and former Sunday School teacher at Abundant Life Assembly of God in Indianapolis. Her life centered on family, church, friends, and a life-long devotion to special-needs education, both in New York and Indiana.
Velma is survived by her sons: Roger Clark (Kathy) of Pennsylvania; and Barry Clark of Indianapolis; daughter, LaDonna (Bob) Ulshafer of Wabash; brother, Eddie Bowlds of Florida; sisters, Jewell Bishop of Corydon; and Helen Rock of Owensboro; ten grandchildren, Tonia, Theresa, Tracey, David, Timothy, Samantha, Dustin, Cassandra, Heather, and Josh; 21 great grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald David and Terry DeWayne, and three sisters, Mary Lee, Carrie Mae and Anna Rae.
Burial and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on April 22, at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, 5050 Highway 144, Owensboro, KY 42303. Payne Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268. A memorial was held January 29 at Wabash (Indiana) Friends Church.
