ELKHART COUNTY — Antonio Fabian Gomez Lopez, 20, found hiding in a Cromwell home, was arrested on a warrant for two counts of child molesting in an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department investigation. According to information from the Elkhart County Correctional Complex website, Gomez-Lopez is being held on $85,000 bond on one charge of child molest and no bond on a second charge of child molest-fondling, a level 4 felony.
Capt. Jim Bradberry with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reports on Saturday, April 8, the department responded to a report of a child molest that occurred to a 5-year-old child in Concord Township, Elkhart County. Responding patrol officers assessed the situation and determined the immediate need for detectives to come on duty and start the process set out by investigative protocol for child victim crimes.
Within the first few hours of the investigation, detectives, now joined by investigators with the Indiana Department of Child Services, facilitated an interview of the victim by a child forensic interviewer, provided after hours by the Child and Family Advocacy Center, a service provided by Child and Family Services in Elkhart. As the investigation into the crime continued, the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in obtaining the arrest warrant for Gomez Lopez. On Wednesday, April 12, detectives located Gomez Lopez in the Cromwell home. Goshen Police Department assisted ECSD with interviewing Gomez-Lopez at the Elkhart County Correctional Facility.
