SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitko softball team opened up its season on a high note Thursday evening. The Wildcats hosted Lakeland and earned a 3-1 victory.

Ellie Snep recorded eight strikeouts for Whitko in the circle while Anna Ousley and Emmy Duggins were hot at the plate to get things going in the third. Duggins had a double and a single in the game while Riley Insley had a single of her own in the game.

Whitko (1-0) hosts rival Churubusco Friday night with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
