Golf Carts To Remain Illegal In Warsaw
WARSAW — An ordinance that would have allowed golf carts on certain streets was scheduled for its second reading during the Warsaw Common Council meeting on Monday, March 6. Instead, council members withdrew the ordinance.
Mike Klondaris and Ron Shoemaker co-sponsored the ordinance which had its first reading during the Feb. 21 meeting. Warsaw Captain Kip Shuter and Warsaw Lieutenant Joel Beam both presented arguments against the ordinance during the first reading.
Klondaris announced the withdrawal to the council.
“I want to thank the council for the support of that ordinance,” began Klondaris. “The ordinance was meant to do good things for Warsaw, but due to continued concerns and continuing input I would respectfully act for a consensus of this council to withdraw ordinance 2017-02-02.”
Due to the withdrawal, state law, which prohibits the operation of golf carts, is the current ruling in Warsaw. The ordinance does have the possibility be amended and brought up again in the future.
Warsaw City Planner Jeremy Skinner then gave an update on the Husky Trail project. The tentative construction start date is April 3. City officials have been busy meeting with the school corporation and local businesses to plan for the construction.
A public hearing will be held during the last week of March at Harrison Elementary. Constituents are invited to the meeting to learn about the phasing off the project and how traffic will be impacted. The official date and time has yet to be announced.
If all goes as planned, the construction will start in April and be completed in October.
