Warsaw Man Sentenced For Dealing Meth While Children Present
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was sentenced today, March 6, for dealing meth from his home with three children present at the time of the deal.
Shane Dale Cox, 218 Argonne Road, Warsaw, was sentenced on one count of dealing methamphetamine. The charge was originally a level 4 felony, however, per the plea agreement the charge was lessened to a level 5 felony.
During the sentencing, Cox’s lawyer Jay Rigdon noted that Cox has essentially no criminal history prior to this incident. He mentioned his last charge was a petty theft in Florida 20 years ago.
Rigdon asked that the Judge Michael Reed give Cox credit for his crime free years.
Cox apologized for his actions and stated that he wanted to get home so he could take care of his children. “My children are everything to me.”
Cox was sentenced to a year and a half at the Kosciusko County Jail followed by a year and a half of probation. Cox received 125 days of credit for time already served. Judge Reed noted that he had no objection to Cox being accepted into the work release or home detention program.
Cox’s charges stemmed from an incident that occurred Sept. 26, 2016. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Cox sold four bags of meth in exchange for $200 to an individual. The deal took place in Cox’s residence.
Three children were at the home during the exchange.
