Triton Basketball Sectional: Bobcats Slow Down Trojans
BOURBON – These two teams have met in this position before, and Saturday night was Oregon-Davis’ time. The Bobcats found a way to slow the juggernaut Triton side down to the tune of a 42-31 championship in the Class 1-A Triton Boys Basketball Sectional.
Triton, winners of 10 in a row coming into the championship, had met Oregon-Davis in the past two sectional championships, each splitting with the Trojans on top in 2016. The Bobcats had the answer, holding Triton’s dynamic duo of Grant Johnson and Zac Pitney to just 18 combined points on 8-19 shooting, 11 points under their combined average. The two also combined for just two attempts from the free throw line.
O-D built a nine-point lead at the half, and after Triton had cut the lead to six entering the fourth at 29-23, O-D didn’t let Triton rally as the Bobcats claimed its 11th sectional title and second in three years at The Trench.
Trevor Risner scored all 15 of his points from behind the three-point arc, going 5-10 from deep. Aaron Parker added 10 points and four boards. O-D (20-6) was 8-17 from three-point range, Triton (18-6) was just 1-8 from range.
Oregon-Davis moves onto the Triton regional next Saturday where it will face Lakewood Park Christian (17-8), a surprise 77-75 winner over Fort Wayne Blackhawk in the championship of the Bethany Christian Sectional. Gary 21st Century (17-8) and Tri-County (23-2) meet in the other semi-final.
