Dewart Lake Home Destroyed In Early Morning Fire
SYRACUSE — The cause that destroyed a home at 58 EMS D18C Lane, Syracuse, by fire around 3 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, March 1, is undetermined. William T. Doyle, owner of the home, escaped without any injury.
Milford Fire Chief Brian Haines reported the call came in shortly after 3 a.m. and the first firefighter on scene found the home fully engulfed in flames. Immediate tanker assistance from Turkey Creek Fire Department was called. With the possibility of three homes being on fire a full assist was called from Leesburg Fire Department and a tanker assist from North Webster Fire Department.
Radiant heat from the fire caused damage to the home of Terry and Pamela Hansen at 60 EMS D18C Lane, and damage to the detached garage at the Doyle residence. Doyle’s vehicle also sustained damage.
The homeowner stated this morning he was asleep and divine intervention awakened him, allowing him to leave his home. Several neighbors in that area stated they heard a loud crack, associated with lightning, around that time, but were unaware there was a fire.
Firefighters were at the scene for approximately 3 1/2 hours.
Damage is estimated at more than $120,000.
