2017 Polar Plunge Participants Enjoy Unseasonably Warm Weather
WARSAW — Participants in the 2017 Polar Plunge enjoyed unseasonably warm weather today, Feb. 18, with sunny skies and temps in the mid 60’s. Water temperature was reported as being in the 40’s.
The annual event was held at the pavilion at Center Lake Park, 119 E. Canal Street, with participants taking the plunge from the beach or the pier at 12:30 p.m.
Polar Plunge is the signature fundraiser for Special Olympics Indiana. All funds raised by this event directly benefit more than 12,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout the state.
This is the third year the event has been held in Warsaw.
According to Buzz Lail, Northwest regional manager, Special Olympics Indiana, approximately 85 people registered online for today’s Polar Plunge.
Participants must raise a minimum of $75 ($50 minimum with a student ID). Awards are presented for best costume, largest group, top fundraising team and top fundraising individual.
Complimentary food and beverages were available for Polar Plunge participants.
