Youngstown’s Olson Among Top Academic Performers
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Morgan Olson was named one of Youngstown State University’s honorees for the Horizon League Fall 2016 Academic Honor Roll.
Olson, who is a junior member of the women’s basketball team, is majoring in marketing management and was among 119 student-athletes from YSU honored. YSU had the second-most selections to the league list, one of four member institutions with over 100, Oakland topping the list with 147 honorees.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria to qualify:
- Participation in at least one of the Horizon League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.*
- Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
- A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
Olson has played in 20 games for the Penguins, starting just one. Her first start, on Jan. 28, had Olson record a season-high 20 points in a 78-74 loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Olson, a 2014 graduate of NorthWood High School, is the girls basketball program all-time leading scorer with 1,641 points. She helped NorthWood to three sectional championships in her four years, including a regional finals appearance in 2011.
