NLC Issues First Half Of Winter Awards
GOSHEN – With teams full speed ahead into the teeth of the IHSAA postseason, the Northern Lakes Conference issued Tuesday its official lists and results for the wrestling, boys swimming and girls swimming postseason awards.
Wrestling
Northridge took the conference by storm this year, running 7-0 under the guidance of Coach of the Year Eric Highley. Three Raiders were automatic All-NLC in winning titles at the conference meet in Evan Beasley, Conner Graber and Trenton Bixler. Owen Eveler was chosen as At-Large All-NLC and teammates Adam Hooley, Mason Cross and Omar Khaoucha were tabbed Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Goshen and Plymouth finished 5-2 in the round robin. The Red Hawks had Fernando Flores and Erik Contreras named All-NLC while the Rockies had Graham Calhoun, Gavin Banks and Micah Calhoun named All-NLC, and Colten Schuler and Nate LaFree as At-Large All-NLC.
Elkhart Memorial, which went just 2-5 in dual matches, was the runner-up at the conference meet and finished fourth overall in the final standings. Christian Mejia, Bryton Goering, Tristan Goering and David Eli were All-NLC and Koby Lundy and Jordan Siddons were Honorable Mention All-NLC.
NorthWood and Wawasee were both 4-3 overall, the Panthers landing Garrett Griffin and Mikey Edwards on the At-Large list while the Warriors had Geremia Brooks All-NLC, Elisha Tipping at At-Large and Ricardo Romo and Braxton Alexander on the Honorable Mention list.
Warsaw was 1-6 and had Kyle Hatch on the All-NLC list. Concord was 0-7 and had Kevin Sibal represent the team on the Honorable Mention All-NLC list.
Girls Swimming
It was a Raider repeat in the girls swim round robin, Northridge going 7-0 once again. Ridge had a host of its roster on the All-NLC list including Sydnee Emerson, Rylee Dahlman, Lauren Miller, Jenna Nethercutt, August Hartzell, Katie Hughes, Jenna Miller, Kenzie Weber and Sara Troyer.
Concord finished second at 6-1 under the tutelage of Coach of the Year Tom Johnson. Maddisen Lantz and Olivia Trout were tabbed All-NLC while Alex Beer and MaKayla Miller were named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Warsaw was 5-2 with Brenna Morgan named All-NLC and Delaney Wihebrink Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Wawasee was 3-4 with Paige Miller named All-NLC and both Ella Park and Shelby Adams Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Honorable Mention All-NLC winners included Zoe Eichorn of Goshen (3-4), Kate Jarvis of NorthWood (2-5) and Leah Smith of Plymouth (1-6). Kim Rezutko of Elkhart Memorial (0-7) was named All-NLC.
Boys Swimming
Just like the girls, the Northridge boys ran undefeated in the NLC at 7-0. Northridge had a dozen names on the respective lists for the conference, with All-NLC nods going to Bryce Brouillette, Brad Thomas, Matthew VanCoppenolle, Nick Dibley, Camden Koch, Joey Garberick, Trevor Sallee, Conner Glenn, Spencer Lehman and Stephen Kiser. Honorable Mention All-NLC went to Kristopher Keller and head coach Joe Keller was joined by fellow coaches Anthony DeBrota of Warsaw and Nate Long of Goshen as Co-Coaches of the Year.
Concord went 6-1 and had Austin Leas and Kallaghan Findley named All-NLC and teammate Sam Lower named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Warsaw was 5-2 and had Alex Cook, Grant Knight, Nick Zogbi and Evan Borchers named All-NLC and Hudson Snyder as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Gpshen was 4-3 and had Mitchell Walters and Alex Ramos named All-NLC and Logan Hoogenboom as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Wawasee was 3-4 with Brady Robinson taking All-NLC and the duo of Jared Krugman and Brady Claassen named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Memorial (0-7) had Mitchell Rockrohr named Honorable Mention All-NLC. Plymouth (2-5) and NorthWood (1-6) did not have representation on the boys swimming list.
