WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after he overdosed on drugs while two minor children were in the home.
Derek Wray, 27, 401 South Indiana St., Warsaw, is being charged with possession of cocaine in the presence of a child less than 18 years old, a level 5 felony and possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers with the Warsaw Police Department and emergency medical technicians responded to an unresponsive male at the Indiana Street residence. The technicians administered a dose a Narcan, a drug used for overdoses. The male was identified as Wray and taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.
A female on the scene advised that Wray had woken up and went downstairs to get ready for work. She heard his head hit a door and when she went to check on him he was unconscious. She told officers that he injects an unknown substance into his abdomen.
In the refrigerator was a white box marked HGH that contained eight glass vials. Six of the vials contained a white powder and two of them were empty. The female advised that Wray had been a heroin addict in the past and gave officers consent to search the residence. She further advised that two minor children were in the residence at the time of the overdose.
Officers searched the house and found 39 hypodermic needles in a drawer beside the bed and found a hollow pin body that contained a white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Officers also located a used hypodermic needle in the downstairs bathroom.
Officers then went to the hospital to speak with Wray but he refused to speak with them.
