Triton Basketball: Bi-County Begins Today; Ticket Info
BOURBON – The 52nd annual Bi-County boys and girls basketball tournaments begin this week, the JV starting today and the varsity programs starting Tuesday.
The JV tournaments will feature Triton hosting Argos in girls/boys games starting at 6 p.m. Also on the docket are Bremen at Culver, New Prairie at John Glenn and LaVille at Oregon-Davis. The JV semi-finals and consolations are Wednesday at LaVille, and the JV girls championship game is Saturday at noon, the JV boys to follow also at LaVille.
The varsity tournaments start Tuesday with the same matchups at the opposite sites. Triton will visit Argos for a 6 p.m. girls start, the boys to follow. Culver will be at Bremen, John Glenn at New Prairie and Oregon-Davis at LaVille.
Shifting to LaVille for the remainder of the tournament, the girls semi-finals and consolations will be Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. The boys semi-finals and consolations will be Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. The girls championship will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with the boys championship to follow.
The reigning champions are Oregon-Davis’ girls and Triton’s boys.
“We’ve got our hands full with Argos, but we’ve seen them already this year so we have an idea of what they want to do,” said Triton girls coach Adam Heckaman. “We’re going to have to play our best if we want to beat Argos.”
Added Triton boys coach Jason Groves, “That’s going to be a tough game. It will be a physical game. We are going to have to play well to get a win at their place, that’s all there is to it. They are well coached and play really good defense. They got us on our home court last year, we want to return the favor.
“Our kids really enjoy this tournament. They seem to focus well on this tournament. We tell them, this is the time of year you start winning championships. Start with the Bi-County, then conference, then sectional. All of that is ahead of us and our kids have something to play for.”
Tickets for the single session are $5 each. Those wanting an all-tournament ticket, good for any of the Bi-County games, can be purchased at any game for $15. School passes will not allow entry into the tournament, tickets must be purchased separately for the Bi-County Tournament.
