Reverend Robert M. Horne
Reverend Robert M. Horne, Winona Lake, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 shortly after 6 p.m. in Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was 84 years old.
Born on April 13, 1932 in Boston, Mass., Robert was the son of Charles and Dora (Melbourne) Horne. He was one of two children born into the Horne family.
In 1955 Robert was married to Betty Joy Rankin in Port Huron, Mich. In one another’s company the two would share many adventures and worldly travels. Betty recently preceded Robert in passing; they were united in marriage for more than 60 years.
Robert was a graduate of Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. and of Grace College and Theological Seminary in Winona Lake. He earned a Doctorate of Ministry.
For many years he was a missionary with Baptist Mid-Missions, working in Liberia, West Africa and British Guyana. He also taught math while in the mission field. He was also a ham radio operator and a violin player.
Those who survive include son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Wendy Horne of Lake Worth, Fla.; two grandchildren, Megan Horne of Charlotte, N.C.; and Adam Horne of Lake Worth, Fla.; niece, Caroline Perry of Wheaton, Ill.; and two nephews and their spouses, Steve and Amy Horne of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and John and Lisa Horne of Harrison, Ark.
In addition to his loving wife Betty, who preceded Robert in passing Oct. 24 of this year, he was also preceded by a son, Jonathan Robert Horne and brother, Charles M. Horne.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 2819 Patterson Road, Warsaw. Pastor Steve Rahn of First Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may gather for one hour prior to the service to share memories with the family.
