Dunlap, Langford Honored As Players Of The Week
INDIANAPOLIS – Romeo Langford averaged 31.0 points in two victories and became New Albany High School’s all-time leading scorer to headline the honorees in this week’s IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program.
The Bulldogs’ junior standout is joined by South Bend Clay senior Tysean Sheppard, Indianapolis Manual senior Courvoisier McCauley, Argos senior Courtney Dunlap, Hamilton Southeastern freshman Sydney Parrish and Shawe Memorial senior Megg Hensler as recipients for the week of Dec. 19-24 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Sheppard and Dunlap are respective boys’ and girls’ winners for District 1. McCauley and Parrish collected boys’ and girls’ accolades in District 2. Langford and Hensler picked up boys’ and girls’ awards for District 3.
The 6-5 Langford opened his week with 28 points, six rebounds and two steals as Class 4A No. 4 New Albany (5-2) knocked off Class 4A No. 2 Carmel 55-52 in overtime. He followed with 34 points, four rebounds, five assists and five steals as the Bulldogs topped Class 3A No. 3 Evansville Bosse 72-63. Langford passed 1997 graduate Chad Hunter for New Albany’s career scoring mark in the Carmel game, topping Hunter’s total of 1,463 points and finishing the week with 1,508 points. For the two games, Langford was 20-of-40 from the field, 7-of-17 on 3-pointers and 15-of-17 on free throws. Langford will be squaring off with Warsaw this Friday in the Hall of Fame Classic in New Albany.
Sheppard averaged 33.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for South Bend Clay (3-3). The 6-1 guard scored 38 points with 16 rebounds in a 73-61 setback at South Bend Adams. He followed with 29 points and eight rebounds in a 72-55 victory over John Glenn. Sheppard sank 24 field goals, including 10 3-pointers, plus 9-of-13 free throws for the week.
Dunlap led Class A No. 3 Argos (12-0) to a 45-31 victory over Class A No. 1 Marquette Catholic in its only game of the week. The 5-9 guard netted 25 points with six rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Dragons defeated the Blazers. Dunlap was 6-of-14 from the field and 13-of-14 from the line.
Among the other nominees for District 1 were Nate Walpole and Brianna Cumberland of Whitko, Dayton Groninger of Warsaw, Nick Felke of Plymouth, Will Line of Goshen, Luke Stephens of Fairfield, Syd Freeman of Central Noble, Trinitee Harris of Elkhart Central and Kaylie Warble of West Noble.
